NUA COSMETICS and ITC Packaging launch a compostable bio-based bottle
Biobased, Compostable, PET Packaging, Solutions, Sustainability 14 de October de 2024The new bottle made with PLA has been developed for Provei Global thanks to the joint efforts of Nua Cosmetics, ITC Packaging and ADBioplastics.
The project started when Provei Global, through its brand Biositivo, set itself a challenge to not only develop a compostable bottle, but also an ecological baby bath gel that complied with the highest quality standards for sensitive baby skin, which was also compatible with this type of packaging. Provei Global wanted to come up with a solution that would combine top quality with sustainable packaging, in line with its ecological principles. Nua Cosmetics took on this challenge and chose ITC Packaging due to its experience in sustainable packaging solutions, along with ADBioplastics, because of its expertise in developing biodegradable materials.
“At Provei Global, with Biositivo, we are committed to creating products that are completely integrated in the natural cycle, without producing waste. It is a pleasure to have partners like Nua Cosmetics, ITC Packaging and ADBioplastics that share our vision and have helped us come up with a product that not only looks after babies, but also the planet”, comments Sébastien Favier, the CEO of Provei Global.
From a technical point of view, it was a real challenge. The result is a 500 ml bottle with a dispenser top made of second-generation bio-based materials. This material improves the transparency and the barrier to both oxygen and water vapour, and it also improves the tenacity and impact resistance. The formulation of the material not only helped develop an environmentally friendly bottle, it also promotes organic recycling, which contributes to the circularity of the materials and the reduction of waste.
In the words of Carlos Soto, the CEO of Nua Cosmetics: “This project has been a thrilling technical challenge. Creating a top quality baby gel formula, which is also compatible with compostable packaging, consolidates our commitment to sustainability and the well-being of babies.”
Xavier Serrano, the Director of the PET Business Unit at ITC Packaging, adds: “We help our customers in the development process of their packaging to improve sustainability and the carbon footprint. With this project we have added a Bio and Compostable line to our portfolio of packaging solutions that joins the other sustainable solutions developed so far (rPET food and non-food).”
After launching this bottle and in accordance with what has been learned in the project, ITC has incorporated a new line of packaging called Bio2Bio, which complies with the EN13432 regulation, and therefore certifies that the packaging is suitable to be turned into compost within a three month period when it undergoes an industrial composting process. This new line of packaging is integrated into the other sustainable packaging solutions that the corporate strategy covers: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rethink.
